Many people who visit Malaysia often plan on visiting the two cities but the big question they often ask themselves is, what is the best way to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Penang? This would definitely be by bus. Kuala Lumpur is considered as the hub of transportation and that explains the huge number of bus operators there.

The buses to board

Now, if you are heading to Penang, there are several bus operators you can consider among them being; Nice, Transnasional, Sri Maju Group, Era Mesra, Alisan Golden Coach and Kulim First Travel & Tours among others. The total distance between Kuala Lumpur is about 182 miles. This makes it a ride of four to five hours but it all depends on the traffic condition. Now, the bus fares to Penang range from RM 37 to RM 42 but this is for the standard VIP. There are others that come at a higher price of about RM 74 from Nice and these offer personal TV and meals on board. Nice has again introduced some brand new coaches going at an even higher price of about RM 103, called the Nice imperial. These offer Wi-Fi, meals on board and personal TV. Apart from Nice imperial, Alisan Golden Coaches also offer Wi-Fi on board, this making their fares to be slightly higher than those of other standard VIP coaches, at RM 42.skskl02

Most bus coaches provide one stop along the way for the travellers to freshen up then later move on with the remaining part of the journey. The trip eventually comes to a stop at the Penang Sungai Nibong bus terminal. At this point you can take a taxi or a Penang city bus to George Town which is just 20 minutes away by car or to the Penang Bayan Lepas International Airport which is just 5 to 10 minutes away by car, it depends on your destination.
